Parallel Offset String

This option will form a new string parallel to an existing string and offset to the left or the right of the existing string by a certain amount.
The Offset amount can be entered by the user.

Select the string.
Then press the Parallel Copy button on the Strings Toolbar.
Enter the new string name, Type, layer and offset.

When the dialog box is displayed, the string to copy can be selected with the mouse.
It also allows you to click to the left or right of string to select Sign of the offset (+ -).
When selecting the string, click slightly to the left or right of the string and it will automatically select the correct + or - offset.
You must still enter the offset distance in metres.

To select a different string, click on it within 1m of the string.



Grid Offset
Enter the Grid offset distance. The value will be converted to a ground distance and redisplayed below.
+ve offset amount to offset the RIGHT of the existing string.
-ve offset amount to offset the LEFT of the existing string.
When a Ground distance is entered below this field will display the equivalent Grid distance.
Ground Offset
Enter the Ground offset distance. The value will be converted to a grid distance and redisplayed above.
+ve offset amount to offset the RIGHT of the existing string.
-ve offset amount to offset the LEFT of the existing string.
When a Grid distance is entered above this field will display the equivalent Ground distance.
Vertical Offset
If the points on the string being copied have heights, the new points on the parallel string will have the vertical offset applied. This can be used for kerbs etc.
If the existing points do not have heights, the new points will not have heights.
